This research paper highlights the sources of paper wastage in sheetfed offset press. Paper wastage control is very important from environmental point of view and the economical point too. This project was undertaken in KUK Press which is a very important part of Kurukshetra University Kurukshetra where in data was collected to analyze the wastage control and factors affecting the wastage especially of paper. The data has been tabulated and presented graphically to analyze effectively. Controlling wastage paper wastage is very important to make the process economical as paper is the element having highest consumption in printing. Data collected has a numbers of elements like name of job, no. of colors, name of machine, speed of machine, no. of stops, temperature of room, total quantity of job, good quantity, wastage, wastage % etc. Finally results indicated that wastage depends upon certain factors like type of job, no of colors, type of paper, temperature of room, quantity of job etc. Keywords

Without printing it is very difficult to survive in today's world. Like all other inventions, printing has travelled a long way to reach to its present form and we are very fortunate to mention here that over the years, it has established its own identity in the world market in terms of technological advancements and production efficiency. Offset printing process is the one of the major form of printing in India as well as worldwide. It occupies more than 40 per cent of total printing systems and even the introduction of digital technology has not changed the scenario much in recent time. Makeready operation is one of the major areas which need special care and attention not only to reduce the time and energy but also to minimize the level of paper waste. Keywords

Dot gain, solid ink density and print contrast are important parameters in every printing process. The main objective of this paper is to study of solid ink density, dot gain and print contrast while printing on Dry Toner based Digital Press on uncoated, gloss coated and matte coated paper. All paper tests were carried out in Avantha Centre for Industrial Research and Development, Yamuna Nagar. A test master was prepared by using various quality control elements (high resolution images). All above the three varieties of papers were printed on Digital Printing Press in Digital Print Application Laboratory, Department of Printing Technology (G.J.U S&T, HISAR). The solid ink density, dot gain and print contrast were measured using spectro- densitometer available in Department of Printing Technology. The result indicated the variation in dot gain, solid ink density and print contrast while print on a dry toner based digital press. Keywords

Laser engraving of gravure cylinders is the latest and most exciting development now being used in the gravure market. Although laser engraving of gravure cylinders is a new variety for etching of gravure cylinders in gravure market, yet vulnerability of processes towards causing various defects exist in present system. Objective of this paper is to throw light on how frequently various defects happen during laser engraving of cylinders and to determine necessary steps to improve quality and efficiency of laser cut rotogravure cylinder production. The results indicated that pinholes, patches and depth variation are most frequently and majorly occurring problems in laser cut rotogravure cylinder manufacturing processes but improper dots and bludges are least occurring problems. Keywords

Print mottle is considered as one of the most important print factors while considering the visual impression of print quality. It is basically the result of uneven ink layer/non-uniform ink absorption across the paper surface and it is more prominently visible in middle tone images or areas of uniform colour such as solids and continuous tone screen images. Mottle pictures can also be observed visually and hence it needs utmost care and attention for enhancing the final print quality. Various grades of papers are used in the digital printing machines for a wide variety of print products and for the high quality print products coated papers are generally used. Effect of mottle on coated paper especially when using digital printing machines is the basic point which needs discussion and deliberation. Keywords

Today, printing and digital media complement one another and are spawning new applications. Conventional offset printing is one of the major forms of printing today, and the growth and development of digital printing in the recent years has certainly made it possible to take care of customization, personalization, and print-on-demand related concepts effectively and efficiently. Print sharpness and print consistency are the two basic print quality factors which need to be discussed in detail. Moreover, suitable methods need to be devised to measure these print quality factors more economically and in a very simplified way. In this work, standard observers are selected to evaluate print sharpness and print consistency with a suitable scale to simplify the above two print quality factors. Keywords

Printing has been one of the major inventions in the history of mankind. Printing has travelled a long way and we are living in an era, in which everything needs printing and everything is needed to be packed. Printing industry is growing with an exponential rate & requires skilled manpower. Objective of this paper is to find out manpower skills printing industries are seeking in B. Tech. Printing Technology students to bridge the gap between skills, B. Tech. Printing institution are producing and the skills required in printing organizations. A survey of 25 printing companies was carried out. The results indicated that practical knowledge of colour separation, color management, measuring the color CIE & LAB value, computer skills, basic knowledge of all process are must for B. Tech. students to meet industrial requirements. Keywords
